It is located in the municipal area of Altea, a Mediterranean village where the beauty of its old quarter and the special light of its atmosphere stand out and are the reasons why it has been chosen by many artists as a place to work.
It was chosen by the Miguel Hernández University for its special charm to establish the Arts Campus and by the Unesco as a centre for the Palace of Fine Arts.
The course now belongs to the Altea Club de Golf and its members, which is constituted as a non-profitmaking sports association inscribed in the Valencia Community Register of Sports Entities with number 4.139 of its first section. The Club is formed by members of up to 9 different nationalities, and particularly Spanish, British, German, Dutch, Swiss and Norwegian, and works as a semi private course, keeping its doors open to the public and with its members rubbing shoulders with green-fee players.
Since the club started out, its development has been emblematic with an attractive design and spectacular environment which make the course an unbeatable place for the practice of golf, a classic of the Costa Blanca, and where most of the golfers from Alicante take their first steps in the sport. However, the more than 30 years of the course suggested the need for a deep reformation of its facilities, a reformation which began in 2004 with the refurbishment of the Clubhouse.
The golf course was undoubtedly the greatest of all the challenges, so in 2005, having defined the club’s new needs, the plans were drawn up to improve and modernise the facilities and to allow its renovation process to begin, resulting in a transformation of the route by creating two different rounds on our 9-hole course.
On the 11th of May 2006, the then President of the Valencia Community Golf Federation, Mr Pedro Barber Lloret, opened the new refurbished course, the work of which supposed great effort and dedication from the whole team of the Altea club.
This stage of changes continues today with the complete renovation of the watering system, the connection of a new purifying unit, the construction of two lakes on the course and other small improvement works such as repairs to the paths, new gardening, preservation of the forest mass, etc., which, though not of the same size as the others, are equally important.
